Open Question: does this story sound interesting.....?

I looked out toward the Atlantic Ocean, out past all the ice and snow and wondered what it would be like to leave this frozen clump of ice and go somewhere warmer. Somewhere like Argentina or Bolivia or even to America to stay with (gag) Aunt Bea for a while. Just thinking about it made me shiver. I pulled out my pocket thermometer and sighed. The temp was 5 degrees. And that was in my pocket, it was probably more like -30! I was very glad that I had worn my warmest coat. Later, inside our igloo (if you could call it an igloo, it was as big as a house), I heard a muffled ‘pow’ and stepped outside. There was a small plume of smoke in the direction of the Shackleton Base. “Oh no!” I thought, “Those pests are going for ice samples AGAIN!” “How annoying.” I sighed. The people at the Shackleton were just doing their job, but, it got irritating sometimes when you were just wanting peace and quiet and once you got relaxed……POW! They would start up again. I shut the door and walked to the kitchen. Yuck. I was glad that my parents had gone to the Shackleton for more supplies (finally); most of what we had was dried soups and mixes. Maybe I would just eat some dog food instead. That sounded better than more dehydrated soup. I am not a picky eater, but I have my limits when it comes to dehydrated split-pea and carrot soup. I peered into the back of the cupboard, spied a can in the corner, pulled it out and, since no one was watching, jumped around in circles. I had found an old can of pinto beans! YIPPEE! Now, if I could just find ONE more tortilla and maybe a teeny-tiny bit of cheese I could make a burrito! What a heavenly change from dehydrated soup! This is an exerpt from the first chapter.
